Lyrical App Reviews
Latest update
Latest update cause problem that the last sentence of lyrics do not be appeared.
First and foremost: This is a widget for the Notification Center. Nothing more, nothing less. You download it, head to the notification center, activate it and that’s it. You’ll see a cover of the current song (if one is set in your iTunes library), as well as the interpret and the title. You can adjust the volume, go to the next or previous song, as well as give the current song a star-rating. There’s also a progress bar, sadly, that’s not interactive (yet?!). It would be great if we could use that to navigate within audiofiles. Here are my 3 feature requests that’ll bring this widget the 5th star: 1.) I want to be able to set the size of the Cover - or the option to turn it off completely 2.) I want to use the progression slider to navigate through audio files, because I’m not only listening to music, but also to podcasts. 3.) I want to hide the “No Lyrics” / “Show Lyrics” text completely. I don’t care for the lyrics and want to keep this widgets height as small as possible. So far, 4 stars from me. Thumbs up and kudos to the developer!
Most worst - a lyrics app without lyrics
Senseless - - a fraud
The idea is great and, as a first version, it’s pretty good, but a lot of work is needed. For example the album art could be made bigger and without the shadow (I find it useless and distracting). An issue that I’ve encountered is that my system.log files get filled with thousands of lines similar to these: Nov 30 00:41:04 my-Macbook WindowServer[171]: 359324210568639: -- Bookend type: 62 (Gesture Ended) conn: 0x211b, window 0x6805 Nov 30 00:41:04 my-Macbook WindowServer[171]: 359325638439346: This makes my computer (Macbook Pro 13” 2.7GHz i7 16GB RAM/ 1TB 7200rpm HDD) slow to a crawl when the log file is being written and also fills system logs incredibily quickly: I now have 18 system.log.* files in /var/logs, each full of the messages above.
I wanted a quick way to view the lyrics of songs playing in iTunes. This app displays the lyrics and also allows me to control playback from Notification Center, which is just a click away and doesn’t take me away from whatever desktop (OS X Spaces) I’m working on. And the controls are laid out very well. There are some things I wish were different: 1) Sometimes, after clicking Show Lyrics and closing Notification Center, I open NC again and the lyrics automatically hide, then I have to click Show Lyrics again. I wish the lyrics would still be visible any time I reopen NC, and only disappear when I click Hide Lyrics. 2) Unlike iTunes, the Previous button begins playing the previous song from the beginning, instead of playing the current song from the beginning. I wish the Previous button in Lyrical behaved the same as in iTunes. 3) I would love the ability to “scrub” through a song using Lyricals playback indicator, as users can do in iTunes and other media players. 4) I would also love the ability to control the font size and the left or center alignment of the lyrics and 5) the option to hide the Cover Art thumbnail, which is rather large. Other than these wishes, the app works great and I will continue to use it. I look forward to the next update! Thanks for all the work put into this app!
It’s great to see that the app has already been updated, and I look forword to future updates. I was reluctant to pay for the app at first, but I’m glad I did. collapsible/expandible lyrics is a nice touch, and the ability to rate and skip songs from notification center feels so natural, I can’t believe it was ever not there.
I love being able to just do the notification center thing to see what’s playing in iTunes, it’s a lot better for me than having that MiniPlayer window constantly in the corner. The only adjustments I would make to this is add the time elapsed/remaining to either side of the progress bar, the ability to drag the progress bar to any point in the song, and a search bar to play songs/albums. I know that what I’m asking for is basically the MiniPlayer window in the Notification Center, and to be honest, that would be great.
I’ve repeated thsi a couple of times, not sure what is happening. When playing (specifically a podcast) I will only see the song name and controls (no album picture). The data displayed will then start blinking off and on a few times, then will vanish completely. The way it’s blinking makes it look like it’s doing this on purpose, but in the end it gives me a blank widget.
No need for mini-player with this app.
This will be a staple in any OSX install from now on. Now that it can control iTunes Radio and Shared libraries, it’s fantastic.
Great replacement for MiniPlayer
Awesome widget. I would love to see Shuffle and Repeat functionality similiar to iTunes if possible.
This is an amazing product and controls iTunes beautifully. The big thing that I would like is Spotify integration so you can control your music playing from there as well.
Looks great in the notification drawer
I love Lyrical, it’s simple and does what I want it to do.
Stopped working with iTunes 12.1 Update. The widget flashes then goes blank. Initially removing it and re-adding to Notification Center solved the problem but now it will not work at all. Hangs and locks up and acts funky with latest iTunes FYI - iTunes 12.1includes a notification widget but no lyrics Still Broken after many months seems to work then breaks. I give up waste of time
Refund
Can you please refund? I thought this application provide lyrics from internet. Thank you.
I wanted lyrics from iTunes to show up in the Notification Center, so this is perfect! Lyrical does only show lyrics if they are already recorded on songs in iTunes, so for the perfect experience, use this in conjunction with “Get Lyrical” which will automatically fill your iTunes library with lyrics as music plays.
This widget does almost everything I wanted, except I have two minor suggestions. First, the play/pause and seek buttons are pretty small. Perhaps they could be enlarged? Second, is it possible to enable half-star ratings within the widget, as TinkerTool allows in iTunes? Other than that, great app!
Worked excellent with iTunes for a while, but now almost useless now that iTunes has switched to Apple Music. The app constantly displays “No Song Playing” even though the tracker is showing the progress, and it shows the ability to pause. I would understand if the lyrics didn’t show since they need to be embedded, but the lack of track info is disappointing. I hope the next update has addressed this issue.
Doesn’t work with El Capitan
